User Policy
Marketplace conduct, listing, safety, booking, and enforcement rules.
This User Policy explains the rules for using Rent Anything, including our mobile applications, website, marketplace, booking, payment, messaging, support, and related services (the "Service"). It applies to every visitor and registered user, whether the user rents products, lists products, or does both. This User Policy is incorporated into the Rent Anything Terms of Service.
1. Purpose and Core Standard
Use Rent Anything lawfully, honestly, safely, and in a way that respects other users, their property, and the community. Do not use the Service to create avoidable danger, mislead another person, evade platform safeguards, or interfere with a fair transaction.
2. Eligibility and Account Integrity
· You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter contracts.
· Provide accurate first and last name, date of birth, email, phone number, address, city, state, and other required account information. A middle name may be provided but is optional.
·Complete required email and government identification verification. A current phone number is required for account and safety records. One-time account verification and password reset texts are optional, require separate affirmative consent, and may be declined without preventing account creation or email verification.
· Submit the front and back of a current government identification document through guided capture or the approved upload flow, together with its expiration date. Uploaded documents may require manual Support review before marketplace access is granted.
· Keep identification current. Rent Anything may send a reminder approximately 30 days before expiration and temporarily restrict marketplace access on or after expiration until replacement identification is approved.
· Do not upload altered, expired, stolen, fraudulent, or another person's identification.
· Maintain one account unless Rent Anything gives written permission for another account.
· Keep your password and device access secure. Do not sell, transfer, lend, or share your account.
· Promptly update information that becomes inaccurate or outdated.
3. User Roles and Access Boundaries
Every standard user may act as a Renter, an Owner, or both. The Service does not require separate renter and owner profiles.
·A Renter may search nationwide listings, request rentals, save a payment method for a request, complete payment at pickup, use pickup and drop-off codes, review invoices, and contact Support.
· An Owner may create and manage the Owner's own listings, accept or decline incoming requests, provide handoff codes, confirm returns, receive payouts, or open a dispute.
· A user may never request a booking for the user's own listing or use Owner controls for another user's listing.
· Support dashboards, product request approvals, dispute resolution tools, and platform-wide user information are restricted to specifically authorized Support accounts.
· Attempting to access another user's or Support's restricted functions is prohibited.
4. Approved Products and Product Requests
Rent Anything controls the product catalog to reduce unsafe, unlawful, fraudulent, or unsuitable listings.
· Choose the closest approved category and approved product when creating a listing.
· If a product is not in the approved catalog, submit a product request to Support instead of using a misleading category or product name.
· A product request must include the requested product, closest category, required notes, and at least one clear photo. Up to four photos may be submitted.
· Support may approve or decline a request. A decline may include a reason. Approval means the product may be added to the catalog; it does not guarantee that every listing of that product will be accepted or safe.
· Do not submit repeated, deceptive, abusive, or prohibited product requests.
5. Listing Standards for Owners
Owners are responsible for every listing they publish.
· You must own the product or have clear legal authority to rent it.
·Use the correct category and product, and provide truthful brand, condition, description, address, city, state, pickup information, hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly rates, deposit, and replacement value. The model may be optional when the listing form says so.
· Provide at least one current, clear photo of the actual product. Up to four photos may be used. Do not use misleading, stolen, stock-only, or unrelated images.
· Describe known defects, damage, missing parts, recalls, unusual hazards, operating limits, cleaning requirements, and safety equipment needed for lawful use.
· Set availability accurately. Pause a listing when the item is unavailable, needs maintenance, is unsafe, or is being prepared between rentals.
· Do not list a recalled, counterfeit, stolen, unsafe, contaminated, illegally modified, or prohibited item.
· Do not use a listing to advertise unrelated products or services, collect personal data, or redirect users off-platform.
6. Booking Requests and Rental Conduct
6.1 Requests, acceptance, and modification
· Renters must choose accurate dates, times, and an hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly pricing option supported by the listing.
· A valid payment method is required to submit a booking request. The payment method may be saved for that booking, but submitting or accepting the request does not charge the rental amount, service fee, or refundable deposit.
· A Renter may cancel a pending request before the Owner accepts it. An Owner may accept or decline a pending request. A decline or pre-acceptance cancellation carries no rental, service-fee, deposit, or cancellation charge.
· Before Owner approval, a Renter may modify the requested duration and switch among hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly pricing only when the listing supports the selected option.
· An Owner must not accept overlapping bookings or make an item unavailable after accepting a booking without promptly contacting the Renter and Support.
· Do not make false requests, manipulate availability, coordinate sham transactions, use multiple accounts to evade restrictions, or pressure another user to move payment, deposits, messaging, or rental activity outside the Service.
6.2 Renter cancellation after Owner acceptance
A short-notice booking is a request submitted less than 24 hours before its scheduled start. The Service's recorded cancellation time controls.
· For a booking submitted at least 24 hours before its scheduled start, cancellation is free when completed at least two hours before start. Cancellation less than two hours before start, at start, or after start carries a charge equal to 25% of the rental subtotal.
· For a short-notice booking, cancellation is free when completed at least 30 minutes before its scheduled start. Cancellation less than 30 minutes before start, at start, or after start carries a charge equal to 25% of the rental subtotal.
· Exactly two hours or exactly 30 minutes before start, as applicable, qualifies for free cancellation.
· The late-cancellation charge is calculated only on the rental subtotal. No Renter service fee, Owner service fee, or refundable deposit is added. Rent Anything retains 9.5% of a successfully collected cancellation charge and credits the remaining 90.5% to the Owner. That platform fee is deducted from, not added to, the Renter's charge.
· A rental that has begun through the pickup code cannot be cancelled under this schedule. An early return does not automatically reduce the agreed rental charge.
· If an Owner cancels after acceptance, the Renter is not charged. Repeated avoidable, retaliatory, discriminatory, or bad-faith Owner cancellations may result in listing or account action.
· Support may waive a cancellation charge after review for an official evacuation, government road closure, severe-weather warning affecting handoff, documented emergency, Owner unavailability, an unsafe or unavailable product, or a product materially different from its listing. Cancel promptly and provide reasonably available evidence.
7. Pickup and Drop-off Code Rules
The six-digit pickup and drop-off codes are transaction safeguards. They must be used only at the correct physical handoff.
· At pickup, the Owner provides the pickup code only after the product and both parties are present. The Renter should inspect the product before entering the matching code.
· Entering the pickup code attempts to charge the rental amount, Renter service fee, and refundable deposit. The rental must not begin and the product must not be handed over unless the required payment succeeds.
· The drop-off code must not be provided at pickup or in advance. At physical return, the Owner provides it after the Renter brings the product to the agreed drop-off location.
· The Renter enters the matching drop-off code to submit the return. The Owner then has 24 hours to mark the rental completed or open a dispute.
· If the Owner does not act during that period and no open dispute or safety hold exists, the Service may automatically complete the return, initiate the deposit refund, and release the eligible Owner payout.
· The exact booking handoff address and instructions stop being available to the parties after return submission and are not displayed in completed booking history or invoices.
· Do not share, guess, publish, reuse, sell, or fraudulently obtain a code. A code records a handoff event but does not by itself prove product condition, responsibility for damage, or the outcome of a dispute.
· If a handoff is unsafe, incomplete, inconsistent with the booking, or payment does not succeed, do not enter the code or transfer the product. Leave if necessary and contact Support.
8. Payments, Deposits, Fees, and Payout Conduct
· Use only payment and payout methods you are authorized to use.
· A booking request requires a saved payment method, but the rental, Renter service fee, and refundable deposit are not charged until the Renter enters the pickup code at physical handoff.
· The Renter service fee is 9.5% of the rental subtotal. The Owner service fee is 9.5% of the rental subtotal and is deducted from the Owner payout. Neither service fee is calculated on the refundable deposit.
· The refundable deposit is charged separately as an actual charge. After a successfully completed return, Rent Anything initiates a refund to the Renter's original payment method. If a timely dispute or safety hold exists, the deposit may remain unreimbursed while Support reviews the matter.
· Owner payout is released after the Owner marks the return completed, the 24-hour review period expires without a dispute or safety hold, or Support resolves a dispute in a manner that permits payout.
· Standard Owner payouts are scheduled weekly. Eligible users may request an Instant Payout through Stripe. Rent Anything charges 1.25% of the Instant Payout amount, subject to Stripe eligibility, available balance, supported payout method, and daily limits.
· Do not initiate fraudulent payments, chargebacks, refunds, transfers, payout requests, or misrepresent damage, condition, value, return status, or evidence to obtain money improperly.
9. Product Safety and Lawful Use
9.1 Owner responsibilities
· Inspect the product before every rental and keep it reasonably maintained, clean, complete, and fit for the disclosed use.
· Provide manufacturer instructions, warnings, guards, accessories, and safety information reasonably necessary for safe operation.
· Disclose known hazards and do not conceal defects, damage, missing safety parts, or repair history that could affect safe use.
· Refuse or stop a handoff if the product is unsafe, the booking details do not match, or the Renter appears unable to use it lawfully or safely.
9.2 Renter responsibilities
· Inspect the product before entering the pickup code. Refuse the handoff and contact Support if it appears unsafe, materially different, damaged, or incomplete.
· Use the product only for its intended lawful purpose and follow manufacturer instructions, warnings, licenses, permits, supervision requirements, and protective equipment rules.
· Do not modify, disable safety features, subrent, transfer possession, overload, abuse, or permit use by an unauthorized or underage person.
· Secure the product against theft, weather, unauthorized use, and avoidable damage. Stop using it immediately if it malfunctions or becomes unsafe.
· Return the product on time, with included parts, in the agreed condition except ordinary wear, and to the agreed drop-off location.
10. Prohibited Items and Prohibited Activity
The current Rent Anything Prohibited Items List is part of this User Policy. Users may not list, request, rent, exchange, advertise, or coordinate prohibited items through the Service.
· Illegal goods, controlled substances, weapons, explosives, stolen goods, counterfeit goods, recalled products, hazardous materials, human or animal remains, live animals, personal credentials, financial accounts, surveillance used unlawfully, and any item identified in the Prohibited Items List are not allowed.
· Do not use Rent Anything to violate local, state, federal, tribal, or international law; licensing rules; sanctions; export controls; intellectual property rights; privacy rights; or another person's contractual rights.
· Do not use the Service for fraud, theft, money laundering, harassment, discrimination, threats, stalking, exploitation, trafficking, sexual services, self-harm facilitation, or violence.
· Do not introduce malware, scrape data without permission, interfere with security, test vulnerabilities without authorization, automate abusive activity, or reverse engineer restricted portions of the Service.
11. Communications, Privacy, and Respect
· Use in-app communications for booking-related coordination and legitimate Support needs.
· Do not send threats, hate speech, harassment, sexual content, spam, scams, malicious links, or repeated unwanted messages.
· Do not refuse, cancel, price, restrict, harass, or retaliate against a user because of a characteristic protected by applicable law. Apply legitimate safety, legal, licensing, payment, availability, and product-suitability rules consistently and never as a pretext for discrimination.
· Do not publish another person's home address, identification, financial information, access code, phone number, or other sensitive data without authorization.
· Do not photograph, record, or monitor another person where prohibited by law. Follow applicable consent requirements for audio, video, and location recording.
· Do not use information obtained through the Service for unsolicited marketing, background investigations, discrimination, retaliation, or purposes unrelated to the transaction.
· Users may choose optional authentication texts during registration or in Login Security. Message frequency varies, standard message and data rates may apply, and users may reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Rent Anything does not send rental or marketing texts through this program. Changing the saved phone number turns the preference off until the user consents again for the new number.
12. Ratings, Reviews, and User Content
Users may share honest opinions about rentals, products, users, and Service experiences, including honest negative reviews, without threat or penalty. Rent Anything may moderate fake or rule-violating content while preserving lawful feedback. Users retain review ownership; the Terms of Service describes the limited hosting and moderation license.
· Reviews must relate to a genuine experience and may not be fake, purchased, fabricated, manipulated, retaliatory, or submitted through multiple accounts.
· Do not offer or accept compensation or another incentive conditioned on a review expressing a particular positive or negative sentiment. Clearly disclose a material relationship when applicable.
· Do not include confidential or private information, unlawful content, threats, harassment, obscenity, discriminatory abuse, intellectual property infringement, or clearly false or misleading statements.
13. Support, Evidence, and Disputes
13.1 Opening and documenting a dispute
· Use the Support section for product requests, email support, frequently asked questions, and disputes.
· A booking participant opening a dispute must provide the booking or invoice number, a reason, a truthful written description of at least 10 characters, and between two and four unique relevant photos. Support may request additional material.
· Provide truthful, relevant photos, messages, receipts, estimates, police reports, or other evidence. Do not alter evidence, submit false claims, threaten another user, or use a dispute to obtain an improper refund, deposit, payout, or account outcome.
· Cooperate with reasonable information requests and preserve the product and relevant evidence while a dispute is pending.
13.2 Damage, loss, theft, and product condition
· An Owner claiming that a returned product is damaged, broken, or no longer operational must open a dispute during the 24-hour return-review period, provide a written description and at least two relevant photos, and provide truthful pre-rental condition information and reasonably available before-and-after evidence.
· Ordinary wear, a disclosed defect, age-related deterioration, or an Owner's failure to maintain the product is not Renter-caused damage. A handoff code or the listing's replacement value does not by itself establish condition, responsibility, or amount.
· A user who reasonably believes a product was stolen must contact the appropriate law-enforcement agency and promptly notify Support. Relevant evidence may include a police report, last-known-location information, communications, receipts, or other visual records.
13.3 Support review and platform outcomes
· Support will consider information submitted by both participants and may give the other participant a reasonable opportunity to respond before deciding a platform outcome.
· When evaluating claimed damage, Support may consider repair diagnostics, item age and condition, depreciation, prior defects, salvage value, reasonable repair cost, and current fair replacement value. A resolution will not intentionally provide an upgrade or windfall.
· If Support determines that the Renter is responsible, the charged deposit may be applied first. Any additional charge requires applicable authorization and must be permitted by law and payment-network rules.
· Support may determine platform handling of the booking, deposit, refund, payout, listing, account, and records. A platform decision is not a court judgment and does not eliminate nonwaivable legal rights or direct claims between users.
14. Enforcement
Rent Anything may investigate suspected violations and may warn a user, remove content, pause or remove a listing, cancel or restrict a transaction, hold a payout while permitted, require additional verification, limit features, suspend an account, terminate an account, preserve evidence, or report conduct to payment providers, insurers, rights holders, or authorities when appropriate and lawful.
Enforcement decisions may consider severity, risk, intent, history, cooperation, legal obligations, payment network requirements, and available evidence. Rent Anything may act immediately when reasonably necessary to protect people, property, the Service, or the integrity of a transaction.
15. Reporting Safety or Policy Concerns
For an emergency or immediate danger, contact 911 or the appropriate local emergency service first. Then contact Rent Anything Support if the event involves a listing, booking, user, payment, or communication on the Service.

16. Account Deletion
A user may request account deletion through Account Management or the public account-deletion page. Deletion is blocked while a rental, return, dispute, deposit, or payout remains active or unsettled. After the final rental is fully settled, a three-business-day safety hold applies before deletion is available.
Rent Anything may retain limited transaction, dispute, fraud-prevention, tax, security, and legal records when reasonably necessary or required by law. A deletion confirmation is sent by email when the deletion process completes.
17. Policy Changes
Rent Anything may update this User Policy prospectively as the Service, risks, laws, or marketplace rules change. Material changes may be communicated by email, in-app notice, push notification, or another reasonable method. We may require affirmative acceptance before continued access to the Service. Where affirmative acceptance is not required, continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law.
